Maths today and during a discussion on whether multiplication always makes the number bigger I had recourse to the old chestnut about slices of pizza in a bid to show how multiplying by a half made the number smaller. After a moment's consideration the girl's face lit up as the penny seemingly dropped. "And it's the same for the burgers, too!" she declared to her partner.

This is the blog for Longden Church of England Aided Primary School, a small rural community school offering a Christian education for children aged 5 to 11. Our school is located in three acres of delightful grounds, in rolling hills 5 miles south-west of Shrewsbury. We have an established reputation for high standards of achievement in core aspects of learning and our pupils enjoy a broad and exciting curriculum. In a recent OFSTED inspection (Jan 2007), 9 out of the 27 inspection standards were graded 'outstanding' including personal development and well-being, curriculum and other activities. The remaining 18 were all 'good' including teaching and learning and standards of achievement. In May 2007 we were awarded Artsmark status by the Arts Council of Great Britain and in September we were one of forty-two schools nationally to be awarded the new Primary Geography Quality Mark (see post A Sense of Place at Longden School)
